Updated Membership Structure

Aug. 27, 2026

The St. Louis ID Society has updated its membership structure to simplify membership categories and make eligibility more inclusive. This change is intended to provide a clearer and more inclusive pathway to membership for professionals actively engaged in infectious diseases and related fields. The updated membership structure eliminates the separate Associate Member category and no longer requires completion of a specific postdoctoral or equivalent training program for full membership. Eligibility for Member status is now based on an individual’s professional activities in infectious diseases or a related field. The Member-in-Training category has also been expanded to include all educational programs that include infectious diseases, clinical microbiology, or other related fields. Moving forward, the Society will offer two membership categories:

Member-in-Training

Individuals may join as Members-in-Training as soon as they enter an educational program that includes infectious diseases, clinical microbiology, or a related field. Members-in-Training do not have voting privileges.

Member

Individuals are eligible for membership when the majority of their professional activities are in infectious diseases or a related field, such as HIV/AIDS. Members have full voting privileges.
